The C40 Recharge arrived for 2022 as an EV-only model on Volvo's CMA platform, sharing its mechanicals with the XC40 Recharge but wearing a lower, sloping roofline. Early cars were dual-motor all-wheel drive only. For 2023 Volvo added a single-motor version and, significantly, switched that single-motor car from front- to rear-wheel drive while fitting a larger battery — a meaningful improvement to range and efficiency.
