Volkswagen launched the SportWagen name for the 2015 model year on the seventh-generation (MK7) Golf, replacing the earlier Jetta SportWagen. Built on the MQB platform, it ran through the 2019 model year in the US. A mild facelift arrived for 2018 (MK7.5) with revised bumpers, LED lighting on higher trims and updated infotainment.

Early cars (2015) were offered with the 2.0 TDI EA288 turbodiesel producing about 150 hp and a strong 320 Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DSG.

The 1.8T EA888 is a robust engine, but there are known Golf SportWagen common problems worth checking. The Gen 3 unit can consume oil through the PCV valve and piston rings, so watch the dipstick and look for a documented consumption pattern. The plastic water pump and thermostat housing are wear items around 80,000–100,000 miles.
