Model profile
The Arteon reached the United States for the 2019 model year and continued through 2023, when VW discontinued it in North America. A facelift arrived internationally for 2021, bringing revised styling, a new interior and updated infotainment; US cars followed that update.
Powertrain and equipment
Every US Arteon uses the EA888 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. Early 2019-2020 cars produced around 200 kW (268 hp), while the facelifted 2021-2023 cars were rated at roughly 224 kW (300 hp) with more torque. Power runs through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic.
US trims were SE, SEL and SEL Premium R-Line, later simplified. Even base cars were well equipped, with leather, a panoramic sunroof, digital cockpit and driver-assistance systems; the SEL Premium R-Line added Nappa leather, a premium Harman Kardon or Dynaudio system, adaptive dampers (DCC) and 4Motion.

The Arteon sold in modest numbers in America, so it is less common than a Passat but still findable.

Pre-purchase review
The EA888 turbo is generally dependable but shares the family traits: intake-valve carbon build-up from direct injection, PCV valve and water-pump wear with age, and occasional oil consumption on higher-mileage cars. The eight-speed automatic is robust and needs its scheduled fluid service. On 4Motion cars the rear coupling and driveline should be serviced as specified.
Germany and Europe
US Arteons run amber side markers, US-specification headlights and mph-primary instruments, and the infotainment radio bands are US-configured.
Typical work includes converting the headlights to EU beam pattern, fitting a rear fog lamp, verifying the odometer, and checking tyres and lighting.
