Model profile

Model history and generations

From launch to today

The GR Corolla launched for the 2023 model year, built on Toyota's E210 Corolla hatch but heavily reworked by Gazoo Racing with a widened track, flared arches, a stiffened body and a bespoke all-wheel-drive system. The limited Morizo Edition, named after chairman Akio Toyoda's racing alias, is the hardcore two-seat variant with more torque and a shorter final drive.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Engines and drivetrain in detail

Every GR Corolla uses the G16E-GTS, a 1.6-litre turbocharged inline-three producing around 300 hp and 370 Nm (up to 400 Nm on later and Morizo cars).

Trim levels and variants

The GR Corolla is a five-door hatchback (the Morizo Edition deletes the rear seats). US trims are Core, the better-equipped Circuit Edition with a forged carbon roof and hood scoop, and the exclusive Morizo Edition.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

Used availability in the USA

Because production is limited and demand is high, used GR Corollas hold value strongly and don't flood the market.

When importing makes sense

This is for the driving enthusiast who wants something rare, fast and mechanically special, and who values a proper manual gearbox and rally-bred all-wheel drive over comfort or space.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Reliability and common problems

The technical assessment depends on model year, powertrain, software status, maintenance history, recalls and the condition of the specific vehicle. USCar Trader can review these points within the agreed vehicle-inspection scope.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

How US versions differ

US GR Corollas run amber front turn signals and typically no rear fog lamp, and the instrument cluster and infotainment default to miles and US mapping.

From US purchase to registration

The assessment depends on the specific vehicle and the circumstances of the transaction. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review any possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are considered separately.

TÜV, approval and license plates

Expect to add a rear fog lamp, adapt lighting to European signalling, and have the km/h odometer verified.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Can I import a used Toyota GR Corolla to Germany?

Yes. It's a standard used import via individual approval, since this variant wasn't officially sold in Europe.

Was the GR Corolla ever sold in Europe?

No, Europe got the smaller GR Yaris; the five-door GR Corolla went mainly to the US and Japan, which is why importing is the route.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How is import VAT treated when importing a Toyota GR Corolla?

Import VAT and other taxes or costs are assessed separately under the applicable rules and the circumstances of the individual case. A blanket answer for every vehicle would not be reliable.

Manual or automatic?

The six-speed iMT with rev-matching is the enthusiast favourite; the 2024-on eight-speed auto is quicker to launch and easier in traffic.

Are there known engine problems?

Early GR-family engines had a machining-debris campaign, so confirm recalls were completed; otherwise the 1.6 turbo triple is proving robust.

What should I watch when buying?

Track history, clutch and brake wear, and whether the car has both Torsen differentials.

How long does import take?

Typically six to twelve weeks from purchase to German registration.
