The WRX is Subaru's turbocharged, all-wheel-drive performance sedan — a rally-bred four-door with a boxer engine and a cult following that reaches well beyond America.
Model profile
The WRX became a standalone model, separate from the Impreza, in 2015. The VA generation (US model years 2015 to 2021) introduced a cleaner sedan-only shape and modern turbo four. The current VB generation arrived for 2022, built on the stiffer Subaru Global Platform, with sharper handling, updated styling and a larger central touchscreen.
Powertrain and equipment
The VA WRX uses the FA20DIT, a 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo flat-four producing 268 hp and 258 lb-ft. The VB stepped up to the FA24, a 2.4-litre turbo boxer with 271 hp and 258 lb-ft and improved low-end response. Both come with Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive as standard.
The WRX is sold only as a four-door sedan. US VB trims run Base, Premium, Limited and the top GT (CVT-only, with adaptive dampers and Recaro seats). VA cars offered Base, Premium and Limited, plus the separate STI in its own trim ladder.

For the Subaru WRX, the agreed inspection plan focuses in particular on vehicle history, visible body and underbody condition, fluid leaks, warning messages, tyres, brakes and accessible suspension components. US WRXs use amber side markers, mph instrumentation and US-spec headlights that need correction for European traffic.
US-market headlights use the FMVSS/SAE beam pattern, which differs from the ECE pattern required in the EU, so they may need adjustment or replacement with ECE-compliant units for registration.
