The Nissan Sentra is one of the highest-volume compact sedans on North American roads, which is exactly why it turns up so often on the US used market and why it makes a sensible import candidate.
Model profile
The Sentra name has been in continuous US use since 1982. The versions that matter for today's used importer are the sixth generation (B16, 2007–2012), the seventh generation (B17, 2013–2019) and the current eighth generation (B18, launched for the 2020 model year).
Powertrain and equipment
The current B18 uses the 2.0-litre MR20DD naturally aspirated four-cylinder, rated at 149 hp and 146 lb-ft, driving the front wheels through a Xtronic CVT. It is not fast, but it is smooth and frugal.
The Sentra is a four-door sedan only — there is no hatch or wagon in this line. Current trims run S, SV and SR, with the SR adding sport styling, paddle shifters, a leather-wrapped wheel and available leather.
Vehicle selection
Supply is excellent. The Sentra sells in huge numbers to rental fleets and private buyers alike, so 2020–2023 cars with 30,000 to 70,000 miles are easy to source in clean condition. Southern and western states offer rust-free examples, which matters for a German registration.

Germany and Europe
US Sentras run amber rear turn signals in some years and typically lack a rear fog lamp, which German registration requires.
Typical work for the Einzelabnahme includes fitting ECE-compliant headlights (or verified adjustment), adding a rear fog lamp, confirming the odometer conversion to km/h is documented, and checking tyre and lighting compliance.
