Model history and generations

Model history: years and generations

The 370Z arrived for the 2009 model year as the successor to the popular 350Z (Z33). It is a single, long-lived generation that Nissan sold in the US market all the way through 2020, when the RZ34 "Z" replaced it. Across that run the car changed relatively little mechanically, which is good news for parts and knowledge.

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Engines, transmissions and drive

Every 370Z uses the 3.7-litre VQ37VHR V6, a naturally aspirated engine with Nissan's VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) system. In standard tune it produces around 332 hp and roughly 366 Nm; the Nismo version was rated up to about 350 hp.

Equipment lines and body styles

US 370Z buyers chose between the Coupe and a folding-roof Roadster; this page covers the Coupe.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

The US used market

Availability in the States is excellent. You can find clean 2015–2019 examples with 30,000–70,000 miles, higher-mileage early cars used as weekend toys, and the occasional low-mileage Nismo. Many US cars come from dry-climate states, which matters for an import because underbody corrosion on a Z is usually mild compared with salted European roads.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Common issues buyers should know

370Z reliability is one of its strongest selling points, but there are known weak spots worth checking. On manual cars the clutch slave and master cylinders can fail, causing a soft or dropping pedal; many owners upgrade to a stainless line and a better cylinder.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

Differences from the European version

US-market headlights use the FMVSS/SAE beam pattern, which differs from the ECE pattern required in the EU, so they may need adjustment or replacement with ECE-compliant units for registration.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Is importing a used 370Z from the USA worth it?

Often yes, because the US market kept the Z affordable and the used pool is large, so desirable Sport and Nismo cars are easier to find than in Europe.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

Manual or automatic — which should I import?

Enthusiasts favour the six-speed manual with SynchroRev Match; it holds value and defines the car's character, though the automatic is smoother for daily use.

What are the most common 370Z problems?

Clutch slave/master cylinder failure on manuals, some oil consumption on the VQ37, and staggered-tyre wear are the usual items to check.

Will a US 370Z pass German TÜV?

Yes, after lighting conversion, a rear fog lamp and speedometer compliance are addressed during individual approval; a stock car is straightforward.

How is the car shipped to Germany?

By container or RoRo ocean freight to a port such as Bremerhaven, followed by customs clearance and inland transport.

Can I import a 370Z Nismo?

Yes. The Nismo is a US-market trim and imports the same way; its aero and Recaro interior are simply documented at approval.

How can a specific Nissan 370Z Coupe be checked from Germany?

Available VIN, title and history information can be reviewed in the vehicle profile. USCar Trader can also arrange a separately booked on-site inspection within a scope agreed in advance.
