USCar Trader import service

Import this model from the USA or Canada

Choose a specific vehicle. Where data is available, its detail page shows the import cost calculation. We assess any possible duty benefit with you before purchase.

Important: A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact us before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support through the process. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

Nissan Maxima

Nissan spent decades marketing the Maxima as a "four-door sports car," and while that slogan is part hyperbole, the car it describes is genuine: a large front-wheel-drive sedan with a proper naturally aspirated V6, a driver-focused cabin and styling far bolder than the family Altima it sits above.

Model profile

Model history and generations

Generations at a glance

The Maxima has run through eight generations since the early 1980s, but the ones that reach the US used market in numbers today are the seventh (A35, 2009–2014) and the eighth (A36, 2016–2023). The A35 introduced the sleeker, coupe-like profile and the well-regarded VQ-series V6.

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Powertrain lineup

Across both recent generations the heart of the Maxima is the 3.5-litre VQ35DE V6. In the A36 it produces around 300 hp and drives the front wheels through Nissan's Xtronic CVT.

Trims in the US market

The Maxima is a single body style — a full-size four-door sedan — offered in a clear trim ladder. On the A36 that runs S, SV, SL, the sportier SR (with firmer suspension, unique wheels and grippier seats) and the range-topping Platinum (leather, panoramic roof, driver-assist and premium audio).

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

The used market stateside

Because the Maxima sold steadily for years and was popular with private owners rather than fleets, the American used market offers plenty of clean, well-kept examples.

Who should import one

The Maxima suits a buyer who wants an unusual, well-appointed large sedan with a real V6 rather than a downsized turbo four, and who values comfort and presence over outright handling.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Inspection plan for this model

For the Nissan Maxima, the agreed inspection plan focuses in particular on vehicle history, visible body and underbody condition, fluid leaks, warning messages, tyres, brakes and accessible suspension components. USCar Trader can document these points through a separately commissioned on-site inspection; inaccessible areas or unauthorised road tests are explicitly recorded as unchecked.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

What US models do differently

US Maximas run amber rear turn indicators, lack a rear fog lamp, and use MPH-primary instrumentation. Infotainment is set up for North American radio bands and navigation.

German TÜV and registration

Expect to add or convert a rear fog lamp, adapt rear lighting where required, ensure headlights meet European requirements, and confirm the speedometer reads correctly (odometer verification is part of the process).

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Can I import a used Nissan Maxima to Germany?

Yes. The Maxima was not sold officially in Germany, so it enters as an individual import with §21 approval, which we handle routinely.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How is import VAT treated when importing a Nissan Maxima?

Import VAT and other taxes or costs are assessed separately under the applicable rules and the circumstances of the individual case. A blanket answer for every vehicle would not be reliable.

Is the Maxima's CVT reliable?

It is durable when the fluid is serviced and kept cool. A documented fluid-change history is the single most important thing to check.

Which trim is best to import?

SR and Platinum carry the richest equipment and are the most rewarding to own; SV and SL are sensible mid-range choices.

Is there an all-wheel-drive Maxima?

No. Every recent US Maxima is front-wheel drive with the 3.5 V6.

How long does the import take?

Usually several weeks from purchase to registration, mostly determined by shipping and the inspection appointment.

Do you own the cars you import?

No. USCar Trader is an independent broker; we source and ship on your behalf without holding stock.
