The Jaguar XE is Jaguar's compact executive sedan, a rear-wheel-drive rival to the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class built on the brand's aluminium-intensive architecture.
Model profile
The XE (project X760) launched globally for 2015 and reached the US as a 2017 model. It received a light refresh for the 2020 model year with a revised interior, updated infotainment and simplified trims, which was also its final US year. Only one generation was sold, so the buying decision centres on engine choice, drivetrain and specification rather than era.
Powertrain and equipment
US XE buyers chose mainly from Jaguar's Ingenium 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol, offered in roughly 200 and 247 hp tunes, and, on the range-topping XE S, a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 producing around 340 hp.
The XE is a four-door sedan only. US trim ladders ran through Premium, Prestige, R-Sport and the performance-flavoured S, with a 300 Sport special edition later in the run. R-Sport and S cars bring sportier bumpers, larger wheels and firmer suspension tuning.
Vehicle selection
Because the XE sold in modest numbers over just four model years, the American used pool is smaller than for German rivals, but clean examples appear regularly, particularly the 2017–2019 four-cylinder cars. Typical import candidates run 30,000 to 80,000 miles. Cars from California, Texas and the south-west are the rust-free sweet spot.

Pre-purchase review
The XE is a pleasant car to own but has known weak points worth checking. The early InControl Touch infotainment could be slow and glitchy — the 2020 system is far better — so test every screen function.
Germany and Europe
US-market XEs run amber side markers, headlamps set for right-hand-traffic beam, mph-primary instrumentation and US InControl navigation mapping. Some driver-assistance and lighting details follow US federal rather than EU standards.
Approval work usually covers adapting the headlamps to a right-hand-traffic beam, fitting or confirming a compliant rear fog lamp, addressing the amber side markers, and recording the odometer reading (converted from miles for the papers).
