Jaguar F-Pace

Importing a used Jaguar F-Pace from the USA

The F-Pace was the car that turned Jaguar into a genuine SUV player, and the American market bought them in large numbers. That matters if you want to import a used Jaguar F-Pace from the USA: a deep pool of well-equipped, gasoline-powered examples exists across the country, often with the bigger engines and option packs that stayed rare in Europe. USCar Trader works as an independent broker on your behalf, sourcing, inspecting and shipping the exact car you choose. We do not hold stock and we do not add a hidden dealer margin.

Below you will find the practical detail that decides whether an F-Pace import makes sense for you: the generations, the engines actually sold in the States, the trims, and what the used market really looks like.

Production years and key changes

The F-Pace (project code X761) launched for the 2017 model year on Jaguar Land Rover's aluminium-intensive iQ platform, sharing much of its structure with the XE and XF saloons. It was built primarily at Solihull in the UK, a point that has direct consequences for customs, which we cover further down. A substantial facelift arrived for the 2021 model year, bringing a redesigned interior with the curved Pivi Pro touchscreen, revised lighting, and the switch to Jaguar's Ingenium inline-six mild-hybrid engines. Anyone shopping the US market will broadly be choosing between the pre-facelift 2017-2020 cars and the cleaner, better-equipped 2021-onward examples.

What is under the hood

US F-Pace buyers mostly saw petrol power. Early cars offered the 2.0-litre Ingenium turbo four badged P250 (247 hp) and a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 in 340 and 380 hp forms (badged 35t, then S). A 2.0-litre diesel was briefly available but sold in tiny numbers. The 2021 facelift replaced the V6 with a 3.0-litre Ingenium turbocharged inline-six with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, sold as P400 (395 hp). At the top sits the F-Pace SVR, powered by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 producing 550 hp, later 575 hp. Every US F-Pace uses the ZF eight-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive, so drivetrain choice is really about how much cylinder you want.

Trims and body styles

The F-Pace is a five-door, five-seat mid-size SUV only; there is no coupe or long-wheelbase variant. US trim ladders moved through Base, Premium, Prestige, R-Sport, S and the range-topping SVR, with named special editions such as the Portfolio and Checkered Flag appearing along the way. Higher trims add the panoramic roof, upgraded Meridian audio, ventilated and heated seats and the larger alloy wheels. Because American cars were frequently ordered loaded, an imported example often carries equipment that would have been a costly option box in Germany.

What the US market offers

Supply is healthy. The F-Pace sold steadily in the US from 2016, so you can find low-mileage recent cars as well as higher-mileage first-generation examples. Typical fleet cars and lease returns surface at three to five years old with moderate mileage, and Sun Belt states offer bodies free of the salt corrosion common in German winters. Condition varies as with any premium SUV, which is exactly why an independent pre-purchase inspection and a full history report are worth insisting on. We deal only in used vehicles and never present an F-Pace as new.

Who this import is for

An F-Pace import makes most sense if you want a specific configuration that is scarce or expensive locally, for example a well-kept SVR or a loaded P400 R-Sport in a colour combination you cannot find at home. It also appeals to buyers who simply prefer the dry-state US cars. If you only want a base four-cylinder in a common spec, the case is weaker, because comparable cars already circulate in Europe.

Reliability: trouble spots to check

On F-Pace reliability the picture is mixed but manageable. The four-cylinder Ingenium engines have a history of timing-chain wear and, on diesels, oil dilution, so verified service history is important. The pre-facelift InControl Touch Pro infotainment was slow and prone to freezes and reboots; the later Pivi Pro system is a clear improvement. Electrical niggles, battery drain from parasitic loads, and occasional water-pump and coolant issues appear in owner reports. Interior trim rattles and squeaks are a common F-Pace complaint. None of this is unusual for the class, but it rewards buying a documented car rather than a cheap unknown.

US vs. Europe differences

US cars run amber rear indicators and different headlight beam patterns, and many carry a switchable rear fog lamp that is mandatory here. Speedometers read in mph, and navigation and telematics are set up for North America. Daytime running light logic and side-marker lights also differ. These are the items your inspector and testing station will flag for the German approval process.

How the import works

The path runs: select the car; verify the VIN, title and build origin; place funds in secure escrow rather than paying a seller directly; arrange inland transport to port and ocean freight to a European hub such as Bremerhaven; clear customs on arrival; present the car for TÜV inspection and individual approval (Einzelabnahme) with any required modifications; then register it. USCar Trader coordinates these stages so nothing stalls between countries.

Import duty, VAT and fees

In short: the 0% duty rate applies only with documented US origin (VIN/plant) – German import VAT of 19% is always due.

Import duty depends on where the F-Pace was actually built. The 0% EU preference under Regulations (EU) 2026/1455 and 2026/1461, in force since 1 July 2026 for directly transported cars, applies only where US origin is provable by VIN and plant. The F-Pace is predominantly built in the UK, so a UK-built example does not qualify for that US-origin rate and the standard passenger-car duty of 10% generally applies. Separately, and always, the 19% German import VAT (Einfuhrumsatzsteuer) is levied on the customs value. We state these two charges separately and never promise duty-free import.

From modifications to registration

Typical work includes converting or adding a rear fog lamp, adapting the lighting to European requirements, and confirming the odometer and speedometer are acceptable. Documentation of emissions and the vehicle's identity is checked during the individual approval. Once TÜV signs off, registration proceeds like any other import.

Pre-buy inspection points

Confirm the VIN matches the title and the car itself. Pull a full Carfax or AutoCheck history for accidents, title brands and service. Inspect for rust in the usual traps despite the aluminium body. Verify timing-chain and oil-service records on four-cylinder cars. Check the infotainment for freezes. Confirm a clean, transferable title. Have an independent inspector road-test it before funds are released.

What buyers ask most

Does a US Jaguar F-Pace qualify for 0% import duty?

Only if its VIN and plant prove US origin. Most F-Pace models are UK-built, so the standard 10% car duty usually applies; the 19% import VAT applies in every case.

Which F-Pace engine is best to import?

The 2021-on P400 mild-hybrid inline-six balances performance and refinement, while the SVR suits buyers wanting the V8. The P250 four-cylinder is the value choice.

Is the F-Pace reliable enough to import?

Yes, with a documented service history. Watch four-cylinder timing chains and older infotainment; a well-kept car is a sound long-term SUV.

How long does the import take?

Ocean freight plus clearance and approval typically spans several weeks from purchase to registration, depending on sailing schedules and testing slots.

Can I import an F-Pace SVR?

Yes. The SVR is regularly available on the US used market and imports like any other F-Pace, subject to the same duty, VAT and TÜV steps.

Do I pay VAT even on a US-origin car?

Yes. The 19% German import VAT always applies, independent of whether the customs duty is 0% or 10%.

Does USCar Trader sell the car to me?

No. We act as an independent broker arranging sourcing, inspection and shipping. There is no dealer margin.
