The Infiniti QX55 is one of the more interesting niche picks on the American used market: a coupe-styled crossover built on the bones of the more conventional QX50, aimed squarely at buyers who wanted the practicality of a compact premium SUV with a sleeker, fastback silhouette.
Model profile
The QX55 arrived comparatively late. Infiniti revealed it in late 2020 and began US deliveries as a 2022 model year car, positioning it as a spiritual successor to the earlier EX/QX50-based coupe idea. It shares its platform, wheelbase and mechanicals with the second-generation QX50 but wears a dramatically raked roofline and split-element rear lighting that echoes the original FX.
Powertrain and equipment
Every QX55 uses Infiniti's KR20DDET 2.0-litre VC-Turbo four-cylinder, the world's first production variable-compression engine. It physically alters its compression ratio between roughly 8:1 and 14:1 to balance performance and efficiency, producing about 268 hp and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque.
Only one body style exists: the five-door coupe-crossover. US trims ran Luxe, Essential and the top Sensory grade, the latter adding quilted semi-aniline leather, a Bose surround system, motion-activated tailgate and the fuller ProPILOT Assist driver-aid suite. The dual-screen InTouch infotainment setup is standard across the range.
Vehicle selection
As a low-volume model, QX55 supply in the States is thinner than mainstream Infinitis, but clean examples turn up regularly through US auctions and dealer inventory.
The QX55 makes sense for buyers who want something visually distinctive and genuinely rare on German roads, with premium equipment and a strong warranty-era drivetrain, without paying for a bespoke grey-market build.

Pre-purchase review
QX55 reliability is broadly solid for a young model, but the headline concern is the VC-Turbo engine. Its variable-compression mechanism adds moving parts that a conventional four-cylinder does not have, and some VC-Turbo engines across the QX50/QX55 family have shown oil consumption and, in isolated cases, more serious internal wear.
Germany and Europe
Because the QX55 was never a European model, US cars run US lighting (amber-only rear indicators in some configurations), a speedometer marked primarily in mph, and Sirius/US-band radio hardware.
Typical modifications for approval include converting the rear lighting to include a rear fog lamp, adapting or replacing headlights to ECE spec, and confirming the odometer reads in a way German authorities accept.
