Infiniti M

The Infiniti M is Nissan's luxury division's answer to the 5 Series and E-Class, and because Infiniti was never a mainstream brand in Germany, these cars are rare and interesting here.

Model profile

Model history and generations

From launch to today

The name covers two closely related generations. The Y50 M (2006–2010, US) offered the M35 and M45, sharing the FM platform with the G-series and the Nissan 350Z. The second generation, the Y51 M (2011–2013 as the M line), introduced the M37, M56 and the petrol-electric M35h hybrid, with a more flowing design and a richer interior.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Engines and drivetrain in detail

The first generation paired the 3.5-litre VQ35 V6 (around 275 hp) in the M35 with the 4.5-litre VK45 V8 (around 325 hp) in the M45.

Trim levels and variants

The M is a four-door executive saloon only. US trims centred on the base car plus option packages: Premium, Sport, Technology and Deluxe Touring.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

Used availability in the USA

Infiniti M sedans were sold in solid numbers across the US, so the used pool is healthy and varied.

When importing makes sense

This suits the buyer who wants an executive saloon with real character and rarity value, away from the common German choices.

Model-specific inspection points

Reliability and common problems

Infiniti M reliability is generally strong, helped by proven Nissan engines. Known Infiniti M common problems include timing chain tensioner wear on high-mileage VQ engines (listen for rattle at cold start), and the VVEL system on the VQ37 can develop actuator noise and needs the correct oil. The VK56 V8 is robust but should have documented oil changes.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

How US versions differ

Because Infiniti barely existed in Germany, parts and dealer support differ from the US, though the underlying Nissan mechanicals ease servicing.

From US purchase to registration

The sequence is clear. First, selection to your brief — engine, drive, trim and budget.

TÜV, approval and license plates

US-market headlights use the FMVSS/SAE beam pattern, which differs from the ECE pattern required in the EU, so they may need adjustment or replacement with ECE-compliant units for registration.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Is the Infiniti M the same as the Q70?

Yes in lineage — Infiniti renamed the M as the Q70 from 2014, so the M badge covers the 2006–2013 cars.

Which engine should I choose?

The M37 V6 is the balanced everyday choice; the M56 V8 offers strong performance; the M35h suits buyers wanting hybrid economy.

Is all-wheel drive available?

Yes — M37x and M56x cars have intelligent AWD, which is well worth seeking for winter use.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How reliable is the Infiniti M?

Generally reliable thanks to proven Nissan engines; watch timing chain and VVEL condition on the V6 and keep the automatic serviced.

Are parts hard to get in Germany?

Infiniti-specific parts can take longer, but the shared Nissan mechanicals make routine servicing manageable.

What mileage is sensible to import?

Most good candidates sit between 60,000 and 130,000 miles with documented maintenance.

How can a specific Infiniti M be checked from Germany?

Available VIN, title and history information can be reviewed in the vehicle profile. USCar Trader can also arrange a separately booked on-site inspection within a scope agreed in advance.
