Model profile

Model history and generations

Generations at a glance

Infiniti used the "G" badge across several distinct cars. The G20 (1991-2002) was a compact front-driver and is rarely worth importing today. The car most people mean is the V35 G35 Sedan (2003-2006), the first rear-drive G, powered by the VQ35DE 3.5-litre V6. It was replaced by the V36 G37 Sedan (2007-2013), a wider, stiffer car with the larger VQ37VHR engine.

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Powertrain lineup

Every rear-drive G Sedan runs a version of Nissan's VQ V6. The G35 used the 3.5-litre VQ35DE, rated roughly 260-298 hp depending on year and tune.

Trims in the US market

The "G Sedan" is the four-door; the coupe and convertible were sold separately as the G37 Coupe and Convertible. Sedan trims ran from base to Journey (the volume comfort model), Sport (firmer suspension, larger brakes, sport seats, magnesium paddle shifters or the 6MT), and the x all-wheel-drive variant.

Who should import one

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Inspection plan for this model

For the Infiniti G Sedan, the agreed inspection plan focuses in particular on vehicle history, visible body and underbody condition, fluid leaks, warning messages, tyres, brakes and accessible suspension components. USCar Trader can document these points through a separately commissioned on-site inspection; inaccessible areas or unauthorised road tests are explicitly recorded as unchecked.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

What US models do differently

US-market headlights use the FMVSS/SAE beam pattern, which differs from the ECE pattern required in the EU, so they may need adjustment or replacement with ECE-compliant units for registration.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Is the Infiniti G Sedan reliable enough to import?

Yes. The VQ V6 is a well-proven engine, and with sensible checks for oil use, the steering lock and timing tensioner, a well-kept G35 or G37 is a dependable used import.

Which G Sedan should I choose?

The G37 offers the strongest engine and the manual option; the G35 is the value pick; the G25 suits buyers wanting lower running costs with the same styling.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

Can I get a manual G Sedan?

Yes, the six-speed manual was fitted to Sport trims. These are less common in the US pool, so expect to search and pay a small premium.

What mileage is acceptable?

Documented history matters more than the number. A serviced 150,000-mile G37 is a safer buy than an unknown low-mileage car.

Will it pass TUEV?

With standard adaptations (lighting, rear fog lamp) a sound G Sedan passes without difficulty.

How long does import take?

Typically several weeks from purchase to registration, driven mainly by ocean freight and clearance scheduling.

Is AWD available?

Yes, the G35x and G37x offer all-wheel drive, useful for German winters.
