The Sonata is generally dependable, but the Theta II engine family carries a well-known caveat: certain 2.4 GDI and 2.0 turbo units built in specific years suffered connecting-rod bearing wear that could lead to engine failure, prompting recalls and extended warranty campaigns in the US.
