Model profile
Honda built five generations of Prelude between 1978 and 2001. The first two generations (1978–1982 and 1983–1987) introduced the low-cowl, pop-up-headlight look and pioneered features such as a standard moonroof. The third generation (1988–1991) was the first Prelude offered with mechanical four-wheel steering (4WS), a genuinely novel system for a mainstream coupe.
Powertrain and equipment
US Preludes are front-wheel drive throughout. Fourth-generation cars used the 2.2-litre F22 and the 2.3-litre H23A1 (roughly 160 hp) in the Si, while the VTEC version carried the H22A1 DOHC VTEC producing around 190 hp.
The Prelude was only ever a two-door coupe. In the US the fifth generation was sold in a comparatively simple line-up: a base model, the SH (Sport Handling) with ATTS, and later a Type SH badge. Standard kit typically included a moonroof, alloy wheels and a driver-focused twin-cowl dashboard.
