The Fusion is generally robust but has documented weak spots. The 1.5 and 2.0 EcoBoost engines can suffer coolant intrusion into the cylinders through the cylinder head/block, a known issue worth checking with a coolant-loss history and an inspection; watch for unexplained coolant consumption and misfires. The 1.5T's PCV/purge valve can fail. There was a widespread door-latch recall across these years — confirm it was completed. Some cars had electric power steering faults and steering-related recalls. The 2.7 V6 is strong but demands disciplined oil changes to protect its timing and turbos. Hybrids are reliable, but confirm the high-voltage battery health. As always, service records beat a low headline mileage.

How US versions differ

US Fusions typically use red rear turn signals combined into the tail lamp and lack a dedicated rear fog lamp, both of which the TÜV addresses. Headlights follow the SAE pattern and the cluster reads in mph. SYNC 3 ships with US maps and imperial units, switchable to metric. Pick a specific car with full photos and history → verify VIN and plant origin (Carfax/AutoCheck, title) → pay through escrow rather than an unsecured wire → arrange inland haul and ocean freight (container or RoRo, usually to Bremerhaven) → clear German customs → complete the TÜV inspection and individual approval (§21 StVZO) → register at the Zulassungsstelle.

Keep the two charges separate. The import duty depends on provable origin: a 0% rate under Regulations (EU) 2026/1455 and 2026/1461 can apply only where US origin is documented by VIN and plant, with direct transport, until 31 December 2029 — and many Fusions are built in Mexico, so this must never be assumed.
