The Fusion Hybrid arrived for the 2010 model year on the first-generation CD3 Fusion, using a 2.5-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder paired with Ford's full hybrid system for a combined output near 191 hp. It was well received and genuinely frugal for its size.
Powertrain and equipment
The Fusion Hybrid uses Ford's power-split full-hybrid system, conceptually similar to Toyota's approach, driving the front wheels through an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) with no conventional gears to wear out.
The Fusion Hybrid was sold only as a four-door sedan. US trims typically ran S, SE, SEL, Titanium and, later, Platinum. Titanium and Platinum cars are worth seeking out: they add leather, upgraded audio (Sony), navigation, driver-assist features and better wheels.
Vehicle selection
Supply is excellent. The Fusion Hybrid sold in large numbers as a private car, a company car and a fleet vehicle, so you will find a wide spread of years, mileages and conditions. Fleet and rideshare cars can carry high mileage, so history matters. As always we favour dry southern-state cars for their rust-free underbodies, which pays off at TUEV.

Pre-purchase review
The Fusion Hybrid is generally dependable, and the hybrid drivetrain itself is robust, but there are known weak points worth checking. Early second-generation cars shipped with the maligned MyFord Touch infotainment, which was slow and glitch-prone; the later SYNC 3 system is much better. Some cars suffered door-latch problems that led to a well-known recall — confirm it was addressed.
Germany and Europe
US cars use amber turn signals, American headlight beam patterns, miles-per-hour clusters and US-region SYNC.
Plan for lighting conversion: approved headlights or beam adaptation, a rear fog lamp (required in Germany, not fitted to US cars) and correctly handled side markers.
