Model profile
The Edge launched for 2007 as Ford's mid-size crossover and ran in two generations. The first generation (2007–2014) established the format on Ford's CD3 architecture. The second generation (2015–2024), built on the CD4 platform shared with the Fusion, is the one most relevant to importers: it is more refined, better equipped and available with the powertrains buyers actually want.
Powertrain and equipment
The core US engine is the 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder, producing roughly 245–250 hp and offered with front-wheel drive or intelligent all-wheel drive. Earlier second-generation cars could be had with a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 around 280 hp.
The Edge is a five-seat, two-row SUV only. US trims include SE, SEL, Titanium and, from 2019, the ST and later the ST-Line appearance package.

Pre-purchase review
The Edge is generally durable, but a few weak points recur. On all-wheel-drive cars, the power transfer unit (PTU) can suffer from overheating and fluid degradation, sometimes leading to leaks or failure if the fluid was never changed; verifying PTU service is worthwhile. Early second-generation cars occasionally showed brake-system faults tied to sensors, addressed under recall.

US Edges display speed in mph, use amber turn-signal markers, and normally omit a rear fog lamp that German registration requires.
Plan for a rear fog lamp, European-approved headlights, and confirmation of the odometer reading. Cars with the panoramic roof and full LED lighting sometimes need extra documentation.
