Model profile

Model history and generations

Production years and key changes

The 500X launched globally in 2014 and reached the US for the 2016 model year. It rides on FCA's Small Wide 4x4 platform, the same architecture that underpins the Jeep Renegade — the two are effectively mechanical cousins built alongside each other at the Melfi plant in southern Italy.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

What is under the hood

Early US 500X models (2016–2018) offered two engines. The base 1.4-litre MultiAir turbocharged four-cylinder made about 160 hp and came with a six-speed manual and front-wheel drive.

Trims and body styles

The 500X is a five-door crossover only. US trims included Pop, Easy, Lounge, Trekking and the sportier Sport, with the Trekking and Trekking Plus adding more rugged styling cues.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

What the US market offers

The 500X sold in modest numbers in America, so it is a niche rather than a volume find, but that also means well-kept examples exist that were used as light urban cars.

Who this import is for

This car suits a buyer who loves the 500's styling but needs more space, a higher seating position and optional all-wheel drive.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Reliability: trouble spots to check

The 500X's reputation is mixed, and honesty helps here.If expressly commissioned, feasible at the vehicle location and approved by the seller, USCar Trader can arrange a driving assessment to document observable shift quality, shudder, hesitation or driveline noise; service and repair records are reviewed separately.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

US vs. Europe differences

US cars use mph speedometers, US-spec lighting without a rear fog lamp, and side-marker lamps. Infotainment and radio bands differ, and the emissions calibration is US federal/California.

From modifications to registration

Expect to add or activate a rear fog lamp, adapt the rear turn-signal function, confirm headlamp compliance and convert the speedometer display.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.
