Model profile

Model history and generations

Generations at a glance

The modern Dart is a single-generation car sold for model years 2013 through 2016. It was the first Chrysler-group product to use a platform derived from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, widened and adapted for North America and built at the Belvidere plant in Illinois. Dodge positioned it as a compact sedan against cars like the Honda Civic and Ford Focus.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Powertrain lineup

The Dart was front-wheel drive only and offered three four-cylinder engines. The base 2.0-litre Tigershark produced about 160 hp. The more interesting 1.4-litre MultiAir turbocharged unit, shared in concept with the Fiat 500 Abarth family, also made around 160 hp but with stronger mid-range torque and better efficiency.

Trims in the US market

The Dart came as a four-door sedan only. Trims included SE, SXT, Aero (the efficiency-focused turbo), Rallye, Limited and GT. The GT paired the 2.4-litre engine with sportier suspension and equipment and is often the most desirable to enthusiasts.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

The used market stateside

The Dart is plentiful and affordable in the US, with a wide spread of mileage given the car's age.

Who should import one

An imported Dart suits a buyer who wants an unusual, characterful American compact that stands apart from typical German traffic, or an enthusiast drawn to the 1.4 turbo or GT.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Inspection plan for this model

For the Dodge Dart, the agreed inspection plan focuses in particular on vehicle history, visible body and underbody condition, fluid leaks, warning messages, tyres, brakes and accessible suspension components. USCar Trader can document these points through a separately commissioned on-site inspection; inaccessible areas or unauthorised road tests are explicitly recorded as unchecked.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

What US models do differently

US-spec Darts use SAE lighting, side marker lamps and often lack a rear fog lamp, all of which the TUEV will address.

German TÜV and registration

Typical work includes fitting or activating a rear fog lamp, adapting the headlights, and confirming the odometer and instruments.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

Which Dodge Dart engine is best to import?

The 1.4 turbo is the most interesting for efficiency and character, while the 2.4 GT is the sportiest. Both are reasonable; the transmission choice matters more.

Is the Dodge Dart reliable?

Manual and conventional automatic cars are generally durable. The dry dual-clutch (DDCT) is the main weak point and is best avoided.

How old are used Dodge Darts now?

They date from 2013 to 2016, so a careful condition and rust inspection is more important than with newer imports.

Will a US Dart pass TUEV?

Yes, after routine changes such as a rear fog lamp and lighting adaptation, and confirmation of the instruments.

Is the Dart really based on an Alfa Romeo?

Yes, its platform is derived from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, widened and adapted for the US market and built in Illinois.

How long does importing a Dart take?

Usually several weeks, mostly ocean freight plus the individual approval schedule.

How can a specific Dodge Dart be checked from Germany?

Available VIN, title and history information can be reviewed in the vehicle profile. USCar Trader can also arrange a separately booked on-site inspection within a scope agreed in advance.
