Model profile
The SQ7 arrived on the second-generation Q7 (the 4M platform, from 2016 globally). US buyers first got the petrol SQ7 for the 2020 model year, powered by the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. A comprehensive facelift for 2020–2021 sharpened the styling, updated the dual-touchscreen MMI interior and revised the driver-assistance suite.
Powertrain and equipment
The US SQ7 uses the 4.0-litre TFSI twin-turbo V8, producing around 500 hp and 568–770 Nm of torque depending on model year and overboost, driving through an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic and quattro permanent all-wheel drive.
The SQ7 is a five-door, three-row SUV with standard seven-seat capacity (a six-seat captain's-chair layout was optional).

Pre-purchase review
The SQ7 is well-engineered but mechanically dense, so the Audi SQ7 common problems tend to be maintenance-cost items. The 4.0 TFSI V8 is strong, but its packaging is tight and repairs to items like the water pump, coolant lines and the valley area can be labour-intensive. The 48-volt electric compressor and its associated wiring are worth verifying for fault codes.
Germany and Europe
The biggest difference is engine choice: the US SQ7 is petrol-only, so there is no diesel to worry about on import.
Typical work includes adding or enabling a rear fog lamp, adapting the headlights to European beam requirements, and documenting the odometer in miles.
