Model profile
The Q8 (project 4M) launched for 2019 and shares its underpinnings with the second-generation Q7. A significant facelift arrived for 2024 with revised lighting, updated bumpers and infotainment tweaks. Throughout the run, the range spanned the standard Q8, the performance SQ8 and the high-output RS Q8.
Powertrain and equipment
US-market Q8 55 TFSI models use a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, producing around 335 hp and 500 Nm. The SQ8 steps up to a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 at 500 hp, and the flagship RS Q8 delivers 591 hp from the same V8 family.
American Q8s were sold in Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige grades. Expect Virtual Cockpit, dual touchscreen MMI, quad-zone climate on higher trims, panoramic roof, Bang & Olufsen audio and 20- to 22-inch wheels.

Pre-purchase review
The 3.0 TFSI V6 is a proven engine, but note carbon build-up over time, occasional water-pump and thermostat wear, and the need to keep the 48V mild-hybrid system healthy. The MMI touch response and the second screen can develop glitches; a software update usually resolves them. Air suspension is the biggest cost item at higher mileage — check that the car sits level and rises promptly.
Germany and Europe
US cars have amber front side markers, US-spec headlight beam patterns, no standard rear fog lamp and MPH-first instrumentation.
Typical changes are European headlight coding or replacement, fitting a rear fog lamp, confirming a km/h speedometer, and recording the odometer.
