Model profile

Model history and generations

Generations at a glance

The ILX ran as a single generation from the 2013 to 2022 model years, built on the ninth-generation Honda Civic platform. At launch it was offered with several powertrains, including a 1.5-litre hybrid. A significant refresh for the 2016 model year simplified the range, updated the styling with Acura's Jewel Eye LED headlights, and standardised the drivetrain.

Powertrain lineup

From the 2016 refresh onward, every ILX used Honda's 2.4-litre K24 naturally aspirated four-cylinder producing 201 hp and 180 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) with torque converter, driving the front wheels.

Trims in the US market

The ILX is a four-door compact sedan only. US equipment was offered in a base grade plus Premium, Technology (Tech) and, from 2019, the sporty A-Spec appearance package. Higher grades add leather, ELS premium audio, navigation, a larger display and AcuraWatch driver assistance.

ILX supply is steady, typically 30,000-90,000 miles, and many were one-owner cars serviced within the Acura/Honda network.

Who should import one

A used ILX from the USA suits the buyer who wants a compact, economical, well-built luxury sedan that nobody else on the street has — and who values Honda mechanical dependability.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Inspection plan for this model

For the Acura ILX, the agreed inspection plan focuses in particular on vehicle history, visible body and underbody condition, fluid leaks, warning messages, tyres, brakes and accessible suspension components. USCar Trader can document these points through a separately commissioned on-site inspection; inaccessible areas or unauthorised road tests are explicitly recorded as unchecked.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

What US models do differently

US ILXs run amber side markers, mph-primary instruments, US federal emissions and no rear fog lamp.

German TÜV and registration

Typical work includes fitting a rear fog lamp, adapting the lighting, and documenting the odometer. The individual approval checks brakes, tyres, emissions and vehicle identity.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Can I import a used Acura ILX from the USA?

Yes. The ILX can be imported and registered in Germany after a TUEV individual approval and customs clearance; as a North-America-only model, importing is the only way to own one here.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How is import VAT treated when importing a Acura ILX?

Import VAT and other taxes or costs are assessed separately under the applicable rules and the circumstances of the individual case. A blanket answer for every vehicle would not be reliable.

Is the Acura ILX reliable?

Yes. It shares Honda Civic engineering and the proven K24 engine, making it one of the more dependable compact luxury imports.

What is the deal with the 8-speed DCT?

It can feel slightly jerky at very low speeds, which is normal for the design; confirm smooth engagement and check for software updates.

What mileage should I expect?

Most available cars run 30,000 to 90,000 miles, often as one-owner, dealer-serviced examples.

Is the ILX related to the Honda Civic?

Yes, it is built on the ninth-generation Civic platform, which keeps parts and servicing straightforward in Germany.

What needs changing for the TUEV?

Usually a rear fog lamp and minor lighting adaptations, plus odometer documentation.
