The GLK was Mercedes' first stab at a truly compact premium SUV, and its crisp, upright, almost boxy styling still looks distinctive next to today's rounded crossovers.
Model profile
There is just one generation, the X204, sold in the US from the 2010 model year through 2015. A significant facelift arrived for 2013, bringing revised front and rear styling, a refreshed interior, LED daytime running lights and, importantly for engine choice, the newer V6 and a diesel option.
Powertrain and equipment
The core US engine is the GLK350's 3.5-litre V6 petrol: pre-facelift cars use the M272 (around 268 hp), while 2013-onward cars switched to the more efficient 3.5-litre M276 (roughly 302 hp).
The GLK is a five-seat compact SUV only — no coupe or long-wheelbase variant. US equipment is generous: panoramic sunroof, leather (MB-Tex or genuine), heated seats, COMAND navigation and various premium and lighting packages are common.
Vehicle selection
GLK supply in America is plentiful, dominated by the GLK350 petrol V6; the GLK250 BlueTEC diesel is scarcer and prized by buyers who want the torque and range. Typical used examples now sit in the moderate-to-high mileage band, so service history matters more than badge. Dry-state cars from the south and west are the pick for clean underbodies, which smooths the later inspection process at home.

US GLKs use amber side markers, US-spec headlights and no rear fog lamp — all things a German inspection expects corrected.
Expect to provide a rear fog lamp, convert or adjust the headlights to the European beam pattern, and document the odometer clearly.
