The GLB occupies an unusual spot in the Mercedes-Benz line-up: a boxy, upright compact SUV that borrows its running gear from the A-Class and GLA but offers something almost none of its rivals do at this size, an optional third row.
Model profile
There is only one GLB generation to date, the X247, launched globally in 2019 and sold in the US as a 2020 model. It sits on the front-wheel-drive MFA2 platform shared with the GLA, A-Class, CLA and B-Class. A mid-cycle refresh arrived for the 2024 model year, bringing the latest MBUX software, a revised grille and steering wheel, and minor trim reshuffles.
Powertrain and equipment
The American GLB is a gasoline-only affair. The core version is the GLB 250, powered by the M260 2.0-litre turbocharged four making 221 hp and 258 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (8G-DCT).
The GLB is offered only as a five-door SUV. US trim structure was straightforward: a well-equipped GLB 250 with option packages (Premium, Multimedia, driver assistance, panoramic roof) layered on top, and the standalone AMG GLB 35 as the performance flagship.
Vehicle selection
Supply is healthy. GLBs from 2020 through 2023 turn up regularly with moderate mileage, many coming off lease in the classic three-year cycle.
The GLB suits a buyer who wants a compact premium SUV with real family practicality and is happy with a petrol drivetrain.

Pre-purchase review
The GLB is a young design, so long-term data is still accumulating, but the shared MFA2 hardware has a track record worth knowing. The 8G-DCT dual-clutch can feel hesitant or jerky at very low speeds and during tight parking manoeuvres; that behaviour is largely characteristic rather than a fault, but a transmission that clunks harshly or slips warrants inspection.
Germany and Europe
American GLBs run amber front turn signals and separate side-marker lamps, and they lack the rear fog lamp that is mandatory in Germany. The headlights are US-beam pattern.
