Model profile

Model history and generations

Production years and key changes

The RZ launched for the 2023 model year as the RZ 450e, sharing the e-TNGA electric architecture with the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra but tuned and trimmed to Lexus standards. It is a first-generation car, so the used pool is young — mostly 2023 and 2024 examples.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

What is under the hood

The core RZ 450e uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive layout Lexus calls DIRECT4, with a motor on each axle and torque distribution that shifts front-to-rear for stability and traction. Combined output is around 308 hp, drawing from a battery of roughly 71.4 kWh usable in the launch cars.

Trims and body styles

The RZ is a five-door mid-size electric crossover.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

What the US market offers

Because the RZ is new, US supply is modest and skewed toward off-lease and dealer-demo cars with low mileage — often well under 30,000 miles.

Who this import is for

The RZ suits a buyer who wants a genuinely refined, quiet, well-built electric SUV and values Lexus finish over headline range figures or straight-line speed.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Reliability: trouble spots to check

The chief real-world criticism is range: the launch 450e's usable range falls noticeably in cold weather and on the motorway, so the radiant heating and heat-pump-equipped cars are preferable for winter efficiency. Some early software behaviours — infotainment responsiveness and charging-session quirks — were addressed by updates, so confirm the car has current software.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

US vs. Europe differences

Beyond the usual US lighting differences — amber side markers, US-aimed headlights and no rear fog lamp — the decisive EV-specific issue is the charging connector.

From modifications to registration

US-market headlights use the FMVSS/SAE beam pattern, which differs from the ECE pattern required in the EU, so they may need adjustment or replacement with ECE-compliant units for registration.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How is import VAT treated when importing a Lexus RZ?

Import VAT and other taxes or costs are assessed separately under the applicable rules and the circumstances of the individual case. A blanket answer for every vehicle would not be reliable.

Can I charge a US Lexus RZ in Germany?

Launch cars use CCS Combo, which works on European DC networks. The 2026-update cars use NACS and may need an adapter — always confirm the connector per car.

What is the real-world range?

The launch 450e is rated around 196–220 miles by the EPA and drops in cold weather and at motorway speed. Heat-pump-equipped cars are more efficient in winter.

What mileage do imported RZs have?

Being a new model, most are low-mileage lease returns, frequently under 30,000 miles.

Is the RZ related to the Toyota bZ4X?

Yes, both use the e-TNGA platform, but the RZ has Lexus tuning, trim and refinement.

Is USCar Trader a Lexus dealer?

The assessment depends on the specific vehicle and the circumstances of the transaction. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review any possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are considered separately.

How can a specific Lexus RZ be checked from Germany?

Available VIN, title and history information can be reviewed in the vehicle profile. USCar Trader can also arrange a separately booked on-site inspection within a scope agreed in advance.
