Model history and generations

Model history: years and generations

The first-generation NX arrived for the 2015 model year, launching the nameplate as the NX 200t (a 2.0-litre turbo) and the NX 300h hybrid. A mid-cycle refresh in 2018 renamed the turbo model NX 300 and improved the infotainment and safety kit.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Engines, transmissions and drive

US NX powertrains cover several options. First-generation cars offered the 2.0-litre turbocharged four (238 hp in NX 300) and the 2.5-litre hybrid NX 300h.

Equipment lines and body styles

The NX is a five-door compact SUV only. US trims typically span the base grade, the sport-styled F Sport, the well-equipped Premium and Luxury, and range-topping variants with the large 14-inch touchscreen, panoramic roof, head-up display, Mark Levinson audio and advanced Lexus Safety System+ driver assistance.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

The US used market

The NX sells in strong numbers in America, so supply of used cars is deep and varied. Typical import candidates are two to six years old, frequently one-owner and dealer-maintained, since Lexus owners lean toward scheduled servicing. Hybrid variants (300h and 350h) are especially common.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Common issues buyers should know

The NX is among the more dependable premium crossovers, and Lexus consistently ranks near the top for long-term reliability. The hybrid system in particular has an excellent record.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

Differences from the European version

Mechanically the US NX matches its European counterpart closely, but equipment and legal details differ. Lighting is US-specification and typically lacks the rear fog lamp mandated in Germany.

Modifications and single-vehicle approval

Typical conformity work includes fitting or activating a rear fog lamp, adapting the headlight and side-marker lighting to European norms, converting the speedometer/odometer to km/h, and preparing the technical documentation for individual approval.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Is the Lexus NX a good import from the USA?

Yes. It combines Lexus build quality with Toyota-group reliability and is well supported for parts, making it a low-risk import.

Which NX engine should I look for?

The NX 350h hybrid offers the best efficiency; the NX 350 turbo gives more performance; the NX 450h+ adds plug-in electric range.

Does the used NX come with all-wheel drive?

AWD is widely fitted across the US market, though some variants are front-wheel drive. Confirm on the specific car.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How reliable is a used NX?

Very reliable, especially the hybrids. Watch oil discipline on the first-gen 2.0 turbo.

How long does importing take?

Usually several weeks, mainly determined by shipping schedules and the customs and approval steps.

Can the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid be charged in Germany?

Yes, once the charging interface is adapted from the US standard as part of the import work.

Is USCar Trader a dealer?

No. We are an independent broker for used US vehicles, with no margin on the car and no manufacturer partnership.
