Jeep Wagoneer S

Importing a used Jeep Wagoneer S from the USA

The Jeep Wagoneer S is the brand's first fully electric global SUV, and importing a used example from the USA is a way to get an early, well-equipped car onto German roads. Because this is such a new model, the American used market is where the first low-mileage cars appear — typically returned leases, demonstrators and early Launch Edition vehicles. USCar Trader works as an independent broker: we locate the car, verify it and manage the logistics, but we are not a Jeep dealer and hold no stock. For a buyer who wants a distinctive, powerful electric Jeep before they become common here, this is a genuinely practical route.

Production years and key changes

The Wagoneer S name marks a clean break. Where the earlier full-size Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are body-on-frame petrol SUVs, the Wagoneer S is a mid-size electric crossover built on Stellantis' STLA Large architecture, launched for the 2025 model year. It arrived first as a fully loaded Launch Edition, with a broader range planned to follow. Being a first-year electric vehicle, every used Wagoneer S you will find is recent, which keeps the mechanical picture simple but also means long-term field data is still thin.

What is under the hood

The launch car is dual-motor, all-wheel drive, with one motor on each axle. Peak output is quoted around 600 hp in its strongest drive mode, giving genuinely quick acceleration for a family SUV — roughly the 3.4-second 0-60 mph range Jeep advertised for the Launch Edition. Energy comes from a battery of roughly 100 kWh usable capacity running on an 400-volt architecture, and Jeep quotes an EPA range in the region of 480 km (around 300 miles). The car supports DC fast charging and includes the features you expect from a modern EV: one-pedal driving, multiple regeneration levels and selectable drive modes. There is no petrol option and no range extender on this model.

Trims and body styles

At launch the line-up centres on the Launch Edition, a single richly specified trim with a panoramic roof, large dual displays, a premium audio system, adaptive driver assistance and full LED lighting. Additional trims broadening the range sit below the Launch Edition. Body-wise the Wagoneer S is a five-seat, five-door coupe-profile SUV with a sharply raked roofline — closer in silhouette to a sporty crossover than to the boxy petrol Wagoneer, and a very different animal from a traditional Jeep off-roader.

What the US market offers

Availability is limited and will stay that way for a while, simply because the model is new. The cars that do reach the used market are almost all Launch Editions with low mileage, often one owner, and frequently still inside their original warranty period in the US. Condition is generally excellent given the age. Because volumes are small, patience helps — the right specification and colour may take time to surface, and this is exactly where a broker with US market access earns its keep.

Who this import is for

The Wagoneer S suits an early adopter who wants a fast, spacious electric SUV with a Jeep badge and striking styling, and who is comfortable being one of the first owners of a model in Germany. It is not the choice for hardcore off-road use — this is a road-focused EV, not a Wrangler. But for a buyer prioritising performance, technology and presence, and willing to accept that parts and specialist service networks are still maturing, importing a used Jeep Wagoneer S from the USA is a compelling early move.

Reliability: trouble spots to check

Long-run reliability data does not exist yet for such a new model, so any claim of proven durability would be dishonest. What can be said is practical: first-year EVs across the industry tend to see software and infotainment updates in their early life, and the Wagoneer S is likely no exception, so confirm the car has received available over-the-air updates. Check for any open recalls by VIN before purchase. Battery state-of-health readouts, charge-port function and the operation of the large displays are the sensible things to verify. Treat this as an early-adopter purchase and budget for the possibility that specialist EV service capacity for the model is still being built up in Germany.

US vs. Europe differences

The most important difference is charging. US cars are supplied with a US-standard DC fast-charge port; adapting to the European CCS2 network is a practical point to plan for before the car arrives, and it should be part of your buying decision. Beyond charging, US cars use amber side markers, mph instrument scaling, US navigation data and US telematics/connected-services provisioning that may not transfer to Europe. Lighting and rear fog lamp requirements follow the TÜV list below.

How the import works

The sequence is the same as for any US car: select the vehicle from US listings or auctions; run a VIN and origin check to establish the build plant and clean-title status; secure payment through escrow; arrange inland transport and ocean freight to a European port; complete customs clearance; pass technical inspection with individual approval (Einzelabnahme) at the TÜV; and register locally. For an EV, add a charging-compatibility check to the front of that list. We coordinate the process as your broker without adding a hidden vehicle margin.

Import duty, VAT and fees

Key point: duty depends on the plant of build; only a VIN check secures the 0% rate. Import VAT of 19% applies regardless.

Keep the two charges separate. The EU import duty on used passenger cars is 0% only with provable US origin, under Regulations (EU) 2026/1455 and 2026/1461, for direct transport until 31 December 2029. This matters a lot here: the Wagoneer S is assembled by Stellantis in Toluca, Mexico, so a Mexican-built car does not automatically qualify for the US-origin 0% rate — the standard third-country duty rate would apply instead. Origin is determined by the VIN and build documentation for each individual car, and nothing is duty-free by default. Separately and in every case, the 19% German import VAT (Einfuhrumsatzsteuer) applies to the customs value. We never promise a guaranteed rate before verifying origin.

From modifications to registration

Expect the usual homologation items: rear fog lamp fitment or activation, headlight beam-pattern conformity, side-marker handling, and documentation of the odometer in kilometres. For an EV there is also the charging interface to address. Once the TÜV issues its report and grants individual approval, registration proceeds with your customs paperwork and insurance confirmation.

Pre-buy inspection points

Work through: (1) decode the VIN and confirm build plant and origin — critical for the Mexico-built question; (2) obtain a Carfax or AutoCheck history for accidents, title and mileage; (3) confirm a clean, non-salvage title; (4) read the battery state-of-health and check charging behaviour on DC and AC; (5) confirm all open recalls are closed and software is current; (6) verify the car's US charge standard and your CCS2 adaptation plan; (7) request close-up photos of tyres, wheels and the large interior displays.

What buyers ask most

Is the Jeep Wagoneer S a good import right now?

It can be, for early adopters. Supply is limited and long-term reliability data is thin, but low-mileage Launch Editions do appear on the US used market.

Does the 0% EU import duty apply to the Wagoneer S?

Not automatically. The car is built in Mexico, so US origin is not a given. Only a VIN-verified US-origin car can support the 0% rate; otherwise the standard rate applies.

Is the 19% import VAT charged as well?

Yes. German import VAT of 19% applies to every imported car separately from any duty, without exception.

What is the real-world range?

Jeep quotes an EPA figure around 480 km (roughly 300 miles) for the Launch Edition. Real-world range depends on speed, temperature and load, as with any EV.

Can I charge it on European fast chargers?

US cars use a US charge standard, so plan a CCS2 adaptation before the car arrives. This should be part of your buying decision.

Is it an off-road vehicle?

No. The Wagoneer S is a road-focused electric SUV, not a Wrangler-style off-roader, despite the Jeep badge.

How long will the import take?

Typically six to twelve weeks from purchase to registration, plus any time needed to source a rare specification.
