Jeep Wagoneer L
Importing a used Jeep Wagoneer L from the USA
The Wagoneer L is the long-wheelbase version of the resurrected Wagoneer, and it is one of the largest three-row SUVs Jeep has ever built. It sits on a body-on-frame platform shared with the Ram 1500, so it drives like a full-size American truck dressed in a premium interior. Because these vehicles are produced in Warren, Michigan, a used Wagoneer L is a natural candidate for import to Germany and the EU. As an independent broker, USCar Trader sources these cars directly from the US market and handles the logistics; we do not sell new vehicles and we take no margin on the car itself.

Model history: years and generations
The modern Wagoneer nameplate returned for the 2022 model year, reviving a badge Jeep last used in the early 1990s. The standard Wagoneer arrived first; the extended Wagoneer L followed for 2023, adding roughly 30 cm of overall length and a longer wheelbase to free up third-row legroom and cargo space behind it. The Wagoneer L is the non-luxury sibling of the Grand Wagoneer L, sharing the underpinnings but with a more restrained equipment level. Since it is such a young model, every used Wagoneer L on the US market today is a 2023, 2024 or 2025 car, which keeps mileage low and condition strong.
Engines, transmissions and drive
The most important thing to know when you import a used Wagoneer L from the USA is the engine change. The 2022 standard Wagoneer launched with the familiar 5.7-litre HEMI V8 with 48-volt eTorque mild-hybrid assistance, good for around 392 hp and 404 lb-ft. From the 2023 model year the Wagoneer and Wagoneer L moved to the Hurricane 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six. In standard-output form it produces roughly 420 hp and 468 lb-ft, more torque than the old V8 while using less fuel. Power runs through the ZF-derived eight-speed automatic to either rear-wheel drive or the Quadra-Trac four-wheel-drive system. Properly equipped, towing reaches around 10,000 lbs, which is part of the appeal for buyers who pull trailers or horseboxes.
Equipment lines and body styles
The Wagoneer L is offered only as a full-size, three-row SUV seating seven or eight depending on second-row bench or captain's chairs. Trim walk runs through Series II and Series III, with option groups such as the Carbide appearance package. Standard kit is generous by any measure: large touchscreens on the Uconnect 5 system, a digital instrument cluster, tri-zone climate and a long list of driver assistance. Even the base Wagoneer L feels loaded compared with a European SUV of similar footprint.
The US used market
Supply in the United States is healthy. Because the L body only appeared in 2023, most cars for sale are recent lease returns and one-owner examples with moderate mileage. Typical odometer readings sit well below what you would expect from an older SUV, and southern and western states offer rust-free examples that pass a German inspection more easily. Condition varies mainly by whether a car came from a snow-and-salt region, which is exactly what a VIN and history report will tell you before you commit.
Is an import right for you?
A Wagoneer L makes sense for a large family or a business that needs genuine three-row space, high towing capacity and a commanding driving position, and who wants something almost nobody else in the parking lot will have. It is not an economy car, and running costs reflect its size. Buyers who value presence, cabin room and American V6 torque over fuel bills are the natural audience for importing a used Wagoneer L.

Common issues buyers should know
As a new-generation model, long-term data is still building, so a careful history check matters more than usual. The 2022 HEMI eTorque cars can show the well-known lifter and "HEMI tick" concerns and occasional 48-volt mild-hybrid faults. The newer Hurricane inline-six has fewer field reports so far but is a complex twin-turbo unit that rewards strict oil-change discipline. Across the range, the most common owner complaints involve Uconnect 5 infotainment glitches, software updates and minor electrical gremlins rather than mechanical failure. Fuel consumption is heavy, and the sheer mass wears brakes and tyres faster. Confirm that any open recalls have been closed before shipping.
Differences from the European version
The Wagoneer L was engineered for North America, so a US car uses amber side-marker lamps, a speedometer reading primarily in mph and headlight aiming set for right-hand traffic. There is no factory rear fog lamp, which German registration requires. Radio frequency spacing and the tyre-pressure system are US-spec. None of this is a barrier; it is standard work that a specialist handles during the approval process.
Import step by step
The path is consistent: select a specific car, run the VIN and origin check, secure the purchase through escrow, arrange ocean freight to a European port (typically Bremerhaven or Rotterdam), clear customs on arrival, present the vehicle for TÜV individual approval (Einzelabnahme), and finally register it. USCar Trader coordinates each stage so you are not chasing carriers and customs brokers yourself.
Customs and taxes: what applies
In short: the 0% duty rate applies only with documented US origin (VIN/plant) – German import VAT of 19% is always due.
Two charges are separate and must not be confused. The EU import duty on a passenger car is normally 10%, but under Regulations (EU) 2026/1455 and 2026/1461 a 0% rate applies to cars of provable US origin, imported directly, between 1 July 2026 and 31 December 2029. Because the Wagoneer L is built in Michigan, US origin can usually be documented through the VIN and plant code, which often enables the 0% rate — but this is never guaranteed until the origin is verified. On top of duty, the 19% German import VAT (Einfuhrumsatzsteuer) always applies, calculated on the customs value plus duty and freight. We pass these through transparently, with no margin added.
Modifications and single-vehicle approval
Typical changes for approval include retrofitting a rear fog lamp, adapting the headlights, and confirming the odometer reads correctly in kilometres or is documented in miles. A COC is not available for a US car, so the vehicle goes through individual approval where an inspector checks lighting, emissions documentation and dimensions before issuing the papers needed for registration.
What to verify before buying
Before you buy, confirm the following: the VIN matches the car and its title; a Carfax or AutoCheck report shows no salvage, flood or odometer flags; there is no structural rust underneath (favor southern-state cars); service history shows regular oil changes, especially on the Hurricane engine; the title is clean rather than branded; and all open recalls have been completed.
Common questions
Is the Jeep Wagoneer L built in the USA?
Yes. It is assembled at Warren Truck Assembly in Michigan, so US origin can usually be documented via the VIN and plant code.
Does the 0% EU import duty apply automatically?
No. The 0% rate applies only to cars of provable US origin imported directly during the 2026/1455 and 2026/1461 window. Origin must be verified before it can be claimed.
Do I still pay VAT?
Yes. The 19% German import VAT (Einfuhrumsatzsteuer) always applies, independent of the duty rate.
Which engine should I look for?
From 2023 the Wagoneer L uses the Hurricane 3.0-litre twin-turbo six with about 420 hp; the 2022 standard Wagoneer used the 5.7 HEMI V8. The six offers more torque and better economy.
How much can it tow?
A properly equipped Wagoneer L can tow up to roughly 10,000 lbs.
Is it reliable?
It is a young model with limited long-term data. The main owner complaints so far concern infotainment and software rather than mechanical faults; disciplined maintenance is key.
What mileage should I expect?
Because the L body only launched in 2023, most used examples have relatively low mileage.
Can USCar Trader handle the whole import?
Yes. We are an independent broker and manage sourcing, escrow, freight, customs and TÜV coordination end to end.
