Model profile

Model history and generations

Generations at a glance

The Renegade (project BU) launched for the 2015 model year on the FCA Small Wide 4x4 platform, which it shares with the Fiat 500X. It received a facelift for the 2019 model year that updated the front and rear styling and, importantly, changed the turbocharged engine line-up.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Powertrain lineup

The US Renegade used several powertrains. At launch the base engine was the 1.4-litre MultiAir turbo four with around 160 hp, offered with a six-speed manual, an unusual and welcome choice in this class.

Trims in the US market

The Renegade is a five-door SUV only. US trims spanned Sport, Latitude, Limited and the off-road Trailhawk, with special editions layered in over the years.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Inspection plan for this model

For the Jeep Renegade, the agreed inspection plan focuses in particular on vehicle history, visible body and underbody condition, fluid leaks, warning messages, tyres, brakes and accessible suspension components. USCar Trader can document these points through a separately commissioned on-site inspection; inaccessible areas or unauthorised road tests are explicitly recorded as unchecked.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

What US models do differently

Because the Renegade was sold in both markets, the mechanical basics are familiar, but the US cars differ in detail.

German TÜV and registration

Typical work includes fitting a rear fog lamp, bringing the lighting into line with European requirements, and confirming the speedometer shows km/h. The odometer is documented during the inspection.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

When should USCar Trader be contacted before purchase?

Whether a duty benefit may be available for the specific vehicle is assessed individually. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the case and provide non-binding support through the process.

Which Renegade engine should I look for?

The 2019-onward 1.3-litre turbo cars are generally the more refined choice. The 2.4 Tigershark is common but thirstier and prone to oil consumption; the early 1.4 turbo offered a manual gearbox.

Is the Renegade genuinely capable off-road?

In Trailhawk trim, yes. It gets Active Drive Low with low-range gearing, hill-descent control, extra ground clearance and skid protection, which is unusual in this class.

What are the common Renegade problems?

The early nine-speed automatic's shift quality and the 2.4-litre engine's oil consumption are the two issues raised most often, alongside minor electrical and infotainment quirks.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

Was the Renegade sold with diesel in the US?

No. American Renegades were petrol only. Diesel, mild-hybrid and plug-in versions were European-market offerings.

Does USCar Trader sell the Renegade directly?

No. We are an independent broker for used vehicles. We source, verify and import a car for you and never add a margin to the vehicle price.

How can a specific Jeep Renegade be checked from Germany?

Available VIN, title and history information can be reviewed in the vehicle profile. USCar Trader can also arrange a separately booked on-site inspection within a scope agreed in advance.
