Genesis GV80 Coupe

The Genesis GV80 Coupe is the sportier, fastback-roofed sibling of the standard GV80, and it landed as one of Genesis's most ambitious plays against the established German coupe-SUVs.

Model profile

Model history and generations

Production years and key changes

Genesis revealed the GV80 Coupe in 2024 as a derivative of the first-generation GV80 that had been on sale since 2020. Rather than a full redesign, the Coupe takes the GV80's platform and running gear and clothes them in a lower, tapering roofline, a more aggressive front treatment and a rear that trades some cargo height for style.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

What is under the hood

In the US the GV80 Coupe is offered with Hyundai-Genesis's turbocharged units. The entry choice is a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing around 300 horsepower, while the headline engine is the 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 rated at roughly 375 horsepower.

Trims and body styles

The GV80 Coupe exists only as a five-door, five-seat fastback SUV; it does not offer the third-row option available on the standard GV80.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

What the US market offers

Because the model is so fresh, US listings are dominated by 2025 cars with low mileage — think demonstrators, early lease returns and lightly driven private examples, most well under 40,000 km.

Who this import is for

The GV80 Coupe suits a buyer who wants the presence and performance of a German coupe-SUV but prefers something genuinely uncommon on European roads, wrapped in Genesis's strong equipment-for-money proposition.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Reliability: trouble spots to check

As a brand-new derivative there is limited long-term field data, so any assessment of GV80 Coupe reliability leans on the underlying GV80, which has generally earned solid marks. Points to watch across the platform include the occasional infotainment or software fault, sensitivity of the many driver-assistance sensors to alignment and calibration, and the routine maintenance demands of a twin-turbo V6.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

US vs. Europe differences

US cars use amber or combined rear lighting in some configurations, omit a rear fog lamp, and read out in miles and Fahrenheit until reconfigured.

From modifications to registration

Typical adaptations are lighting-related — adding a rear fog lamp, adjusting turn-signal colour where required, and setting a correct headlight beam pattern — along with confirming km/h instrumentation.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

How is the GV80 Coupe different from the standard GV80?

It shares the platform and engines but has a lower fastback roofline, sportier styling and only five seats — there is no third-row option on the Coupe.

Which engines are available?

A 2.5-litre turbo four of about 300 hp and a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 of roughly 375 hp, the latter offered with an electric supercharger in its highest-output form.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How is import VAT treated when importing a Genesis GV80 Coupe?

Import VAT and other taxes or costs are assessed separately under the applicable rules and the circumstances of the individual case. A blanket answer for every vehicle would not be reliable.

Is all-wheel drive standard?

Yes. Every US GV80 Coupe comes with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic.

Is there much used stock available?

Because it is so new, listings are mostly low-mileage 2025 cars. The pool is small but growing.

How reliable is it likely to be?

The technical assessment depends on model year, powertrain, software status, maintenance history, recalls and the condition of the specific vehicle. USCar Trader can review these points within the agreed vehicle-inspection scope.

Can it seat seven?

No. The Coupe is strictly a five-seater; choose the regular GV80 if you need a third row.
