Important: A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact us before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support through the process. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

Chrysler Town & Country

The Chrysler Town & Country is one of the defining American minivans, and it remains a sensible import for buyers who want genuine seven- or eight-seat space without paying European MPV money.

Model profile

Model history and generations

Model history: years and generations

Chrysler's minivan lineage stretches back to 1990, but most import candidates fall into the last two generations. The fourth generation (RS platform, 2001–2007) introduced the first version of Stow 'n Go fold-flat second-row seating in 2005, a feature that reshaped the segment. The fifth and final generation (RT platform, 2008–2016) is by far the most relevant today.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Engines, transmissions and drive

Early fifth-generation vans used the 3.3-litre and 3.8-litre pushrod V6s, and a 4.0-litre V6 sat at the top of the range.

Equipment lines and body styles

The Town & Country was always positioned as the upscale Chrysler minivan, so even base cars are well equipped. Common US trims include Touring, Touring-L, Limited and the blacked-out S package.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

The US used market

Supply is the Town & Country's strongest card. The American market absorbed hundreds of thousands of these vans as family and fleet vehicles, so clean, one- or two-owner examples with full service records are readily found. Most import candidates are 2011–2016 Pentastar cars, often with mileage between 80,000 and 200,000 km.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Common issues buyers should know

The Town & Country is dependable when maintained, but it has recognised weak points. The most talked-about is early Pentastar left-bank cylinder-head wear (roughly 2011–2013), which can cause ticking and misfires; many affected heads were replaced under warranty in the US, so ask what has been done.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

Differences from the European version

US-market headlights use the FMVSS/SAE beam pattern, which differs from the ECE pattern required in the EU, so they may need adjustment or replacement with ECE-compliant units for registration.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Is the Chrysler Town & Country a reliable import?

Yes, when maintained. Target 2011–2016 Pentastar vans, check for the known cylinder-head and TIPM issues, and prioritise a documented service history.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How is import VAT treated when importing a Chrysler Town & Country?

Import VAT and other taxes or costs are assessed separately under the applicable rules and the circumstances of the individual case. A blanket answer for every vehicle would not be reliable.

Which engine should I look for?

The 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 from the 2011 refresh onward is the strongest choice for performance, refinement and parts availability.

What is Stow 'n Go seating?

It lets the second- and third-row seats fold flat into the floor, creating a large flat load bay without removing seats.

How long does the import take?

Allow roughly six to twelve weeks from purchase to registration, depending on freight schedules and inspection appointments.

Is all-wheel drive available?

No. The final-generation US Town & Country was front-wheel drive only.

Can it be registered in Germany?

Yes, after TÜV individual approval covering lighting, rear fog lamp and the usual conversions.
