Chevrolet Traverse

The Chevrolet Traverse is one of America's default family haulers: a full-size, three-row crossover with genuine eight-seat capacity, a smooth V6 for most of its life, and the kind of interior volume that European rivals rarely match at the same footprint.

Model profile

Model history and generations

Generations at a glance

The first-generation Traverse (2009–2017) rode on GM's Lambda platform, shared with the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. It introduced the format buyers still want: a wide body, a flat load floor, and up to eight seats. The second generation (2018–2023) moved to the lighter C1XX architecture, grew slightly, and sharpened the styling. This is the sweet spot on the used market today.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Powertrain lineup

Through 2023 the Traverse was defined by GM's 3.6-liter LGX V6, producing 310 hp and 266 lb-ft, paired with a nine-speed automatic.

Trims in the US market

The Traverse is offered only as a five-door crossover, but trims span a wide range: L and LS at the base, the volume LT, the sporty RS, and the upmarket Premier and High Country.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

The used market stateside

Supply is deep. Second-generation cars from 2018 onward turn up constantly at US auctions and dealers, with typical mileage between roughly 30,000 and 100,000 miles for a three-to-six-year-old example.

Who should import one

An imported Traverse suits families who need three usable rows and a big boot but do not want a ladder-frame SUV's ride or thirst.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Inspection plan for this model

For the Chevrolet Traverse, the agreed inspection plan focuses in particular on frame, underbody, towing or payload modifications, visible corrosion and records of previous use. USCar Trader can document these points through a separately commissioned on-site inspection; inaccessible areas or unauthorised road tests are explicitly recorded as unchecked.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

What US models do differently

US-spec Traverses use amber rear turn signals combined into the tail lamp on some trims, MPH-primary speedometers, and no rear fog lamp — all items the TÜV expects to see corrected.

German TÜV and registration

Typical changes for a Traverse include adding a rear fog lamp, adapting or coding the lighting so turn signals and DRLs comply, and converting or clearly documenting the odometer in kilometers.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Is the Chevrolet Traverse reliable enough to import?

Yes, a well-maintained V6 Traverse is a durable family SUV. The main watch points are oil consumption, timing chain noise on early V6s, and the nine-speed's shift refinement — all manageable with a good history and inspection.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How is import VAT treated when importing a Chevrolet Traverse?

Import VAT and other taxes or costs are assessed separately under the applicable rules and the circumstances of the individual case. A blanket answer for every vehicle would not be reliable.

Which years are best to import?

Second-generation cars from 2020 to 2023 with the 3.6 V6 and AWD offer the best blend of refinement, features and resale.

How is the Traverse shipped from the USA?

By container or RoRo ocean freight from a US port to a German port, followed by customs clearance and TÜV approval.

Is all-wheel drive worth it?

For German winters and light towing, yes — the AWD system improves traction and does not greatly hurt economy.

What does the TÜV usually require?

Commonly a rear fog lamp, compliant lighting/turn signals, and kilometer documentation, plus headlight and emissions checks.

How can a specific Chevrolet Traverse be checked from Germany?

Available VIN, title and history information can be reviewed in the vehicle profile. USCar Trader can also arrange a separately booked on-site inspection within a scope agreed in advance.
