Import this model from the USA or Canada

Choose a specific vehicle. Where data is available, its detail page shows the import cost calculation. We assess any possible duty benefit with you before purchase.

Important: A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact us before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support through the process. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

Cadillac DTS

The Cadillac DTS is old-school American luxury in its purest form: a big, quiet, front-drive sedan with a smooth V8, a soft ride and a cabin sized for six.

Model profile

Model history and generations

Model history and generations

The DTS ran from the 2006 model year to 2011 as the successor to the DeVille — in fact the name derives from the old "DeVille Touring Sedan" badge. It was the last of the traditional big front-drive Cadillacs before the XTS took over, and it shared its basic platform lineage with the long-lived Cadillac full-size sedans.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Engines and drivetrain

Every DTS uses the Northstar 4.6-litre DOHC V8. In base tune it makes around 275 hp; the high-output version fitted to Performance and Platinum cars produces roughly 292 hp. Drive goes to the front wheels through a 4T80-E four-speed automatic.

Which trim makes sense

The DTS came only as a four-door full-size sedan. Trim levels ran through Luxury I/II/III, the sportier Performance, and the top Platinum.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

Supply on the US market

DTS supply is steady and varied. You will find low-mileage, one-owner personal cars kept in garages alongside high-mileage former livery cars — the history report matters enormously here.

Who benefits from importing

The DTS is for a buyer who wants relaxed, wafting comfort and a real V8 rather than sharp handling.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Known weak points and maintenance

The DTS is mechanically simple by luxury standards, but the Northstar V8 has a well-known reputation to address.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

US and EU spec compared

US DTS sedans use amber side markers, US-beam headlights, MPH instruments and US-market radio and navigation. The climate and infotainment default to imperial units.

TÜV, modifications and registration

Typical work includes fitting a rear fog lamp, adapting the headlights to a European beam pattern, converting the amber side markers and documenting the odometer in an accepted form.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Is the Northstar V8 a reliable engine?

It can be, especially the later DTS-era units, but head-bolt/head-gasket issues are the known risk. Buy a car with a healthy cooling system and documented care.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How is import VAT treated when importing a Cadillac DTS?

Import VAT and other taxes or costs are assessed separately under the applicable rules and the circumstances of the individual case. A blanket answer for every vehicle would not be reliable.

How many seats does the DTS have?

Five as standard, or six with the optional front bench — genuine American six-passenger luxury.

Are former livery DTS cars worth avoiding?

Not automatically, but they usually carry high mileage and hard use. The history report should guide the decision.

Is the DTS good on fuel?

No — it is a large V8 cruiser. It rewards relaxed driving, not economy.

Are parts available in Germany?

Increasingly yes, through US-car specialists; the Northstar and GM components are well documented.

How long does the import take?

Typically several weeks after purchase, driven mainly by shipping and customs clearance.
