Model profile

Model history and generations

Model history: years and generations

The RAM 3500 is the one-ton member of the Ram heavy-duty range, sitting above the 2500. The current DT generation launched for 2019 and brought a stiffer frame, a redesigned interior with the large available Uconnect touchscreen, and a substantial jump in towing capability. Earlier fourth-generation trucks (roughly 2010–2018) remain common on the used market and offer proven mechanicals at lower cost.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Engines, transmissions and drive

Two engines define the RAM 3500. The standard petrol unit is the 6.4-litre HEMI V8, producing around 410 hp, paired with an eight-speed automatic.

Equipment lines and body styles

US RAM 3500s span Tradesman, Big Horn (Lone Star in some states), Laramie, Laramie Longhorn and the top Limited. Cab choices include Regular, Crew and the large Mega Cab, with single-rear-wheel (SRW) or dual-rear-wheel (DRW, the classic dually) axles and various bed lengths.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

The US used market

Heavy-duty RAM trucks sell in large numbers in the US, so used inventory is broad, from lightly used luxury Laramie diesels to higher-mileage work trucks. Diesel Cummins trucks are especially sought after and tend to hold value.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Common issues buyers should know

The Cummins diesel is famously durable, but the RAM 3500 has documented weak points. Emissions hardware on modern diesels, the EGR system, DEF (AdBlue) injection and the diesel particulate filter, can cause faults and warning lights if the truck was short-cycled or poorly maintained, and repairs are expensive.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

Differences from the European version

US trucks read in mph, use amber markers and typically lack the rear fog lamp German registration requires. Headlights meet US standards and must be adapted.

Modifications and single-vehicle approval

Expect a rear fog lamp, European-approved headlights and odometer confirmation.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How is import VAT treated when importing a RAM Ram 3500 Pickup?

Import VAT and other taxes or costs are assessed separately under the applicable rules and the circumstances of the individual case. A blanket answer for every vehicle would not be reliable.

Which engine should I choose?

The 6.7 Cummins diesel offers the strongest towing and best resale, especially in High Output form. The 6.4 HEMI petrol is cheaper to buy but thirsty and less capable.

What is the CP4 fuel pump concern?

Some diesels use a CP4 high-pressure pump that can fail and send debris through the fuel system. Confirm fuel-system service and, ideally, any protective measures.

Can a dually be registered in Germany?

Yes, but its width, weight and classification are examined closely at approval, and they affect taxation and driving rules. We flag these points early.

Will a US RAM 3500 pass German TÜV?

Yes, with a rear fog lamp, European-approved headlights, emissions compliance, mileage documentation and correct load ratings.

Is the diesel's AdBlue system a problem?

Only if neglected. A well-maintained DEF and emissions system is reliable; a poorly serviced one is a common and costly source of faults.

How can a specific RAM Ram 3500 Pickup be checked from Germany?

Available VIN, title and history information can be reviewed in the vehicle profile. USCar Trader can also arrange a separately booked on-site inspection within a scope agreed in advance.
