Model profile

Model history and generations

Generations at a glance

Lucid began Air deliveries in late 2021 with the limited Dream Edition, then rolled out the range: Grand Touring, the mid-tier Touring, and the entry Pure. In 2023 Lucid added the tri-motor Air Sapphire, a roughly 1,234 hp performance flagship. Across model years Lucid has refined the software, added a smaller battery Pure, and updated the driver-assistance suite (DreamDrive).

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Powertrain lineup

Every Air is electric and uses Lucid's compact, highly efficient drive units on a class-leading 900-volt-class architecture (around 924 V).

Trims in the US market

The Air is a single body: a low, aerodynamic five-seat luxury sedan with a glass canopy roof, a huge frunk and Lucid's curved 34-inch "Glass Cockpit" display. Trims — Pure, Touring, Grand Touring and Sapphire — differ mainly in power, battery, wheels and interior appointments.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

The used market stateside

US supply is modest but real, dominated by 2022-2024 Grand Touring and Touring cars, typically with low mileage because these are recent, high-value vehicles.

Who should import one

The Air suits a buyer who wants a genuinely long-range luxury EV that stands apart from the usual German executive saloons, and who is comfortable with a very thin European service network.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Inspection plan for this model

For the Lucid Air, the agreed inspection plan focuses in particular on battery condition, charging interface, warning messages, software status and accessible high-voltage and cooling-system components. USCar Trader can document these points through a separately commissioned on-site inspection; inaccessible areas or unauthorised road tests are explicitly recorded as unchecked.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

What US models do differently

US-market Air sedans run miles-per-hour instrumentation, North American navigation and infotainment, no rear fog lamp, and a charge port configured for the US network (CCS with NACS adapters emerging).

German TÜV and registration

Typical changes for approval include fitting a rear fog lamp, adapting the rear indicators, and confirming headlight compliance with ECE rules.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Can I import a used Lucid Air to Germany?

Yes. It is imported as a used vehicle from the US market and approved through TÜV individual acceptance.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How is import VAT treated when importing a Lucid Air?

Import VAT and other taxes or costs are assessed separately under the applicable rules and the circumstances of the individual case. A blanket answer for every vehicle would not be reliable.

Can it fast-charge in Europe?

Yes, on CCS with the right adapter; its 900V architecture supports very high DC charging speeds.

How is service handled in Europe?

Lucid has almost no European network, so maintenance relies on independent EV specialists — plan for longer lead times.

Which variant has the longest range?

The Grand Touring is rated up to roughly 516 miles EPA on smaller wheels.

How long does the import take?

Usually several weeks, mostly driven by ocean freight, customs and approval.

Are early cars worth avoiding?

Early 2022 builds had more software immaturity; confirm the current software version and closed recalls.
